Big Data and It's Characteristic
As there are many definitions of the Big Data according to its purpose of use but the one that is the most reasonable and very effective one is the “Big Data is frontier of a firm’s ability to store, process and access all the data it needs to operate effectively, make decisions, reduce risks, and serve customers.” Big Data is becoming more enormous day by day and the reason behind this is the continuous and rapid updates in technology and interaction of people with the digital world. As people are looking for a secure way of saving the data due to this reason people are moving towards saving their data in Cloud Servers and other databases online. It is known that there are 2.7 Zettabytes of data exist in the digital universe until now. The Big data is not only interfaces in our daily life but also it helps in solving various problems related to forensic and about medicine. Big data is so much big in science that conventional ways do not apply to them and there are other specific ways to handle such amount of the data. There are technologies like Hadoop and Spark that provide specific algorithms and techniques that help to analyze and manipulate a huge amount of data. The big data is defined using 3 V’s (Volume, Velocity, Variety).
Volume
The Volume concerns with the amount of data as to how much amount of data a specific website holds or what is the amount of data that is present in the server of the specific website. Here we can discuss the example of a very famous website naming YouTube.com. There are 1.8 Billion logged-in monthly users on YouTube. Now the data associated with these users will be of a great and of huge amount. There is another fact that after every minute 400 hours’ worth of videos is uploaded on YouTube.
Velocity
As it can be get cleared from the heading that velocity means at which speed the data is being generated. And due to very rapid changes in modern technologies and the growing interaction of people with technologies the data is generating at a fast pace. We can take the example of a very famous social networking website Facebook. More than 500 terabytes of data being processed in the servers of Facebook and it is increasing day by day. As more users and signing in and using Facebook for many purposes such as Expanding Businesses and marketing their current business. The reason behind such a huge amount of data generation is that people are looking for a very secure way of hiding to keep their files and data. So there are platforms available online which can help in order to attain this aim. Due to this, it is a very important factor to handle the data that cannot be handle by using regular means of data handling.
Variety
The variety concerns with the two types of Data, Structured and Unstructured. Structured data contains tweets, posts, videos, and text files, etc. Unlike structured data, unstructured data consists of audio files, handwritten texts, and audio recordings, etc. Both structured and unstructured type of data has their own importance in the specific areas. For example, structure data can be used for a business to make predictions. Predictions about the behavior of the customers, for example, by analyzing the data a data analysis can tell which item is famous among the customers and which item is not liked by the customers. In this way, a company or an organization can work on making their products better than they are currently. Unstructured data has its own importance and it is used for keeping an eye on the rise and fall of the shares of the company or it can also be used to keep an eye on the movement of shipments and other transports of the company.
At the end, the Big Data is Everywhere and it is something that cannot be handled by our devices of daily use. With this increasing data, we have to think in a direction that how and where and for what purposes we can use this data.
